Lister CS 6/1 2.5kW Startomatic startup
Переглядів 150 тис.4 роки тому
Startup of a Lister CS 6/1 2.5kW startomatic set using a single light bulb. The control system detects that the light bulb is in circuit, which begins the starting sequence. These generators were common in rural Britain in the days before the National Grid reached these areas. Many now survive in preservation and some are still used as backup generators.

Wolseley WD1 stationary engine start up following restoration

Wolseley WD1 purchased September 2015 and restored back to running condition. Still a few things to do to it but it runs! Starts very easily with handle or by flicking over the flywheel by hand.

My 8PB running on a sunny rallyfield on a Sunday afternoon. It's running on paraffin after having been warmed up on petrol.
Ruston Hornsby 8PB Cold Start -1°C
Переглядів 1,7 тис.9 років тому
Starting the 8PB in mid January at -1°C. A bit of backfiring initially but it settled down with a richer mixture. The carburettor air shutter was opened some more after a couple of minutes running once the engine had warmed up.
Ruston Hornsby 8PB and Lister D stationary engines

A small garden crank-up of the Ruston Hornsby 8PB and Lister D, running at slightly different speeds. Both are running on petrol but the Ruston can also be run of paraffin once warmed up, it does spit, fart and clunk a bit on paraffin though.
Lister D first run after re-build

Lister D engine which came from the Isle of Arran, apparently it was found in a derelict barn where it had sat for a long time. When I got it the exhaust valve was rusted solid in the guide and took quite a bit of effort to free off. The valves have now been ground in, oil changed and gaskets replaced. I also constructed the wooden trolley for it. This was its first run in many years and it wen...
Ruston Hornsby 8PB stationary engine and saw bench at work
Переглядів 9239 років тому
This Ruston Hornsby 8PB works hard for its petrol - here it is running a saw bench used for chopping up firewood. This engine and saw bench were sold by Wallaces of Ayr in 1940 and have always been kept together. I am the third owner, the previous owner had the engine and bench set up in a large shed for 47 years! It was originally mounted on the floor on large wooden beams, the current trolley...
Ruston Hornsby 8PB stationary engine - 3HP
Переглядів 1,1 тис.9 років тому
My newly acquired Ruston Hornsby 8PB chugging away after a carburettor clean. I stuck a bit of spare steel pipe on the exhaust to reduce the noise a bit, as it was deafening with the short pipe. It will get a proper silencer soon. The trolley was built by myself, previously it was mounted on wooden bearers with a saw bench, in a shed that it had been in since 1967. The engine was made in 1940 a...

I was on 4/51 post
What a nice set up. I really like it. I would like a 12 Horse Power engine. 😇🙏
Boston Blackie brought me here. ua-cam.com/video/DRoqrmcm9ls/v-deo.html
I LOVE that!! Do you know its history??
So cool
I remember that day well! I was still drunk from the night before, but me and a couple of pals went there and filmed it. Amazing sight. Shame it wasn't a regular feature at Edinburgh Airport.
Is the starting system 12v or 24v ?.
24V, I just use two car batteries in series
Attack warning brown more like.
Attack warning? Is it real?
Attack warnings for bloody real!
Right, get to your stations.

Hi there,do you use this setup to supply your 240volt, you,v installed it very nicely, and is ot running o Fuel oil.rgds&Cheers
It is linked to the garage via a changeover switch, which allows the garage to be run on mains or the generator. I haven’t linked it to the house yet but this may happen in future. Currently it runs on diesel but the Lister CS can also run on alternative fuels like veg oil.
Hi thankyou for reply, with the rising cost off electricity, do you think this would be the way forward, by the way,are you running on Cherry/gasoline.rgds Steve
@@stephenabbot7905 Its running on red diesel which I got in 2020 when the price was low.
Probably cheaper to generate your own electricity these days
With diesel it is still more expensive than mains electricity, but if you can find a cheap or free source of used veg oil then yes, it would be cheaper than mains.
Nice demonstration of these old intercoms! It's fascinating to see them still working. I'll always remember Dictographs from the scene in A Day at the Races (1937), where Groucho Marx is working at a hospital with phony qualifications and tries to stall the boss from finding out. ua-cam.com/video/icq2KvONMPA/v-deo.html
Superb ,thanks for posting
Superb
Amazing
Heat your house with the water too!
I was an apprentice with Dictograph from 1961-65 Best job in the world as getting paid to travel and work usually for high end customers THANKS
What a great system. Love it.
Presumably, the alternator doubles as the starter motor?
1st light on starts it and last one off stops it. Amazing generators.
Yes the alternator also has DC windings for starting and recharging the starter battery.
Our old post office telephone exchanges used as back up power sources. Simple and stunning.
That is such a happy sound! You’ll never get better than a lister.
neighbours must love you
Holy Shit, even in the US we got rid of that insane design decades ago! Why don't they come out and remark this properly, make it a 2+1 or something?
Was this a revision A, B, or C PCMCIA module?

No, it did a low pass and flew off to Glasgow. It did a circuit or 2 out over the Forth and one over Edinburgh Airport/West Craigs prior to the low pass.
The sound no one wants to hear .
Lovely to see that functional. Our local post is gutted
Hello, congratulations for this long distance contact. How often do you issue? 73's, Mike 14fdx072 from France
I've had some amazing contacts without using burners the best was a SSB contact to Australia using a Ham International Concord 11 and a silver rod 12 watts. I've also contacted around the UK and a fair bit of Europe with a basic 4 watt set in the car with several anntena over the years. I was sitting in the carpark of B&Q Falkirk central Scotland talking to a guy from Dover. My favourite contact was one day while walking the dog I grabbed a realistic walkie talkie I had on UK 40 it was a small 40 channel 4 watt rig with a could rubber duck antena that day I was talking to a guy about 55 miles away Is it just me or do you think it's more fun contacting a distant station with basic kit rather that running huge burners through beam Antennas.
this helped with driving theory and problems with three lane two-way roads!
O yes love the engine.
This activates the Air Raid Sirens all over the UK
What bloody air raid sirens?
@@reginavsTMumby The ones that still exist from the Cold War in which are currently used for flood warnings in your country
Sorry, no sirens anymore, too expensive. You will (seriously) get a text message though. Not sure what it will say, but something along the lines "you're f*cked" would seem appropriate.
@@johnparker4538 Well that's too bad for siren enthusiasts
@@johnparker4538 there will be no warning.. no point
lol that eject sound was epic.
using standard powered is always good. those with 1kw burners sat up on a hill speaking across Europe think they are doing well. it's laughable, taking a scaffold pole and a 5/8 wave dipole up on the top of a hill, using a huge 1kw burner. Those kind of cretins give cb radio a bad name, over on the ham bands you find a lot of the same, although most now use the Internet and talk via Web link ups. Hence over complicating things just for the sake of it. the Web allows you to speak to strangers all over the world, why connect a 2 way radio to it. lmao
Nice one Tom, looks the part! BULB!
Nice! its tiny!
